What is ornithoptera goliath?

Ornithoptera goliath, commonly called Goliath birdwing or Queen Alexandra's birdwing, is the largest butterfly in the world, with a wingspan of up to 12 inches. It is named after Queen Alexandra of Denmark, wife of King Edward VII of England.

The male Goliath birdwing has black wings with emerald green spots and a metallic blue-green body, while the female has black wings with white spots and a brownish-black body. Both sexes have a brightly colored abdomen.

Goliath birdwings live in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea, where they can be found flying in the canopy. They primarily feed on nectar, and are known to be important pollinators of various plant species in their habitat.

However, Goliath birdwings are also threatened due to habitat destruction and over-collection for the butterfly trade. Conservation efforts are being made to protect their habitats and control their trade, including captive breeding programs and community-based conservation initiatives.
